A Lesson in Resilience: The Rescue of an Eagle at the Gates of Souss-Massa
There are unexpected encounters in the wild that remind us just how incredibly vulnerable—and remarkably resilient—wildlife can be. During a recent expedition near the Souss-Massa National Park, our team came across a majestic eagle (Aquila) in great distress, stranded at the foot of a high-voltage power line pylon.
What was supposed to be a simple nature excursion quickly turned into a high-stakes rescue mission and, above all, a tremendous lesson in courage.

The most striking part of the day was not the discovery of the injured bird, but its awe-inspiring attitude. Despite an obvious wing injury and clear exhaustion, the eagle refused to give up.

This vital force—this way of maintaining such dignity in our presence—deeply moved us. It was a pure reflection of the wild spirit that we cherish so much in the Souss-Massa region.
From Spain to Morocco: A Mobilization Without Borders
Fully aware of the urgency, we acted immediately to secure the animal. Upon closer examination, we noticed it was fitted with a GPS tracker on its back, which included a contact email address.
- Securing and First Aid: We shielded the bird from stress, providing it with food and water so it could begin to regain its strength.
- International Contact: Using the information on the GPS beacon, we immediately reached out to the Spanish wildlife organization AMUS (Acción por el Mundo Salvaje).
- Local Support: Highly responsive, the AMUS team quickly connected us with a specialized wildlife care center here in Morocco to ensure the eagle's continued convalescence and medical treatment.
A Hope for Conservation
This incident highlights the severe dangers that human infrastructure, such as high-voltage power lines, pose to large migratory birds. However, it also underscores the vital importance of citizen vigilance and cross-border collaboration in protecting our biodiversity.
Today, this proud bird of prey is in good hands. Its piercing gaze and indomitable posture will remain etched in our memories as a powerful symbol of nature's resilience.
